As declared by UNESCO, the CBSE has asked its schools to celebrate February 21 as Matribhasha Divas or International Mother Language Day.While the board says it isn't mandatory to conduct all day activities, such as elocution, debate and other extracurricular activities, CBSE director Sadhana Parashar ,said , "It has been decided to celebrate Matribhasha Diwas on February 21 to promote the use of one's mother tongue and achieve some language related objectives."
The objectives include sensitizing people about the use of mother tongue for the nation's development and also impart proficiency in their respective mother tongues. Celebrating these days help in imparting national togetherness, and promote oneness in the nation. Celebration of an International Mother Language day in schools is predicted to help children grow with the values of their nation and understanding essentials of Indian culture.Some schools are reported to be closed on February 21, which falls on a Saturday.
